Horace attempted to calm his wife down, claiming that they are kids, but their constant bullying led her to a frenzy which made her grab the axe Horace was using and possibly attack the children with it.
Oblivious to what has lured them, the two officers decided to investigate the house against the kids’ wishes. Officer Landers notices that something seems not right as the other one is suddenly driven away by the tree’s roots. Officer Lister taunts the tree, which suddenly, prompts it to move and grab his leg. Things then suddenly became worse as the house attacks them and devours Officer Landers alive while sadistically playing with Officer Lister whom it grabbed via branches before eventually tossing him into its mouth. Later on, when DJ and Chowder sought to investigate the house, Chowder, who doesn't believe strange things that occurred inside the house, starts to fool around on the house's lawn.
As in most ghost stories, the fright stands in for other emotions — grief, disappointment, loneliness — and the film’s climactic sequences combine hair-raising sensation with dreamy and delicate pathos. Upon reaching the crane, DJ uses it to swing over the house's chimney and throws the dynamite down to its heart. One day, when Chowder's basketball accidentally flew into Nebbercracker's lawn and prompts DJ to bring it back, Nebbercracker ambushes and storms toward him. DJ tries to calm him down, but this does not change Nebbercracker's mind to scare him further.
As he carries the tricycle back to his house, he notices DJ spying on him from his bedroom window. When DJ attempts to retrieve his best friend Chowder's basketball from his lawn, he is caught by Nebbercracker, and after accidentally damaging his lawn, Nebbercracker furiously grabs DJ, and lifts him off the ground and yells at him. DJ's weight causes Nebbercracker's bones to crack, and at the same time, he suffers a heart attack, causing him to faint on top of DJ. Not long afterwards, he sense his wife's presence and learned that both her death, and love for Nebbercracker led her to possess the house. This made him take precautions on that one night of every year, Halloween; he was aware that Constance's spirit caused the house to come alive, and there was the risk of the house attacking innocent children trick-or-treating and even adults.
